Adults with autism Autism spectrum disorder ASD is the name for a range of similar conditions, including Asperger syndrome, that affect a person’s social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour. In children with ASD, the symptoms are present before three years of age, although a diagnosis can sometimes be made after the age of three. More boys are diagnosed with the condition than girls. There’s no “cure” for ASD, but speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational support, plus a number of other interventions are available to help children and parents.
Older children have problems using non-verbal behaviours to interact with others — for example, they have difficulty with eye contact, facial expressions, body language and gestures. They may give no or brief eye contact and ignore familiar or unfamiliar people. Children with ASD may also lack awareness of and interest in other children. They tend to play alone. They can find it hard to understand other people’s emotions and feelings, and have difficulty starting conversations or taking part in them properly.
Children with ASD will tend to repeat words or phrases spoken by others either immediately or later without formulating their own language, or in parallel to developing their language skills. Some children with ASD like to stick to the same routine and little changes may trigger tantrums. Others may engage in repetitive activity, such as turning light switches on and off, opening and closing doors, or lining things up.

Dating and relationships can pose a unique set of challenges for people diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. Here, we explore how social cues and other differences in perception can affect these daters.
Personal friends share their thoughts and feelings as well as experiences. Some people on the autism spectrum tend to be very open, honest and willing to share themselves with others — traits close personal friends will value. Most people, whether neurotypical or on the autism spectrum, only have a few friends who meet this definition of a close personal friend. They might not be as ready to be open and honest and share personal information about themselves with you, so they feel uncomfortable when you share too much about yourself too soon.
Some neurotypicals like to develop friendships slowly. When someone asks you questions about yourself, such as where you were born or went to school or what things you like, they are indicating that they have a possible interest in becoming your friend. Making friends has less to do with whether people like you than it does with whether you have interests or experiences that are similar to theirs, and whether you are also willing to share in their interests that are different from yours.
Many people with autism have particularly strong interests in certain areas. Unfortunately, it might be that very few other people share those interests. Clubs where people with your special interest are likely to gather are excellent places to find friends. You could find people who share your special interests at museum workshops on your favorite topic, while volunteering to take care of your favorite animal at the zoo or animal rescue, in classes in your field or subject of interest, or at local events centered on your special interest.
The Problem with Autistic Dating Websites
Now we just use the word autism though the diagnosis still stands. We use the word autism collectively now as autistic people have scattered skill sets. Someone might be very strong in one area, like academics for example, but they might struggle with communication. Stimming People with autism are processing a huge amount of information the whole time so the sensory environment can be overwhelming.
They need to actively think about communication and other social situations which means the mind is quite busy all the time, and that energy has to go somewhere to stop it overheating. It can be any repetitive action or noise a person might make in order to calm themselves down.
Tips for being in a relationship with a man who has Asperger’s or Autism. For people who have Asperger’s disorder or autistic disorder, social interaction is complicated. Although people with Asperger’s are thought to have high-functioning autism, they still have social problems. I am recently dating a boy with Asbergers. I must.
Dating someone autistic can pose a whole new challenge. Autism is a disability which effects people in a variety of ways, effecting verbal, mental, social and communication skills. People with autism have different levels of functioning and the list below is a generalisation, so be sure to communicate with the person and clarify what they find difficult. These are just some of the things you may come across when dating someone autistic: Be Prepared For Their Hyperfixations People with autism can become obsessed with something usually considered a hobby.
It can be anything from playing a musical instrument, to gaming, to sports. What neurotypical people would usually deem as an interest becomes a fixation for someone with autism, where all they can think about is their fixation and they spend all their free time dedicated to this thing so may lose their attention from spending time with you.

Sexual relationships are the subject of much discussion amongst non-autistic people. In fact, much of the non-sensical discussion amongst non-autistic people is about this. This has the implication that you can often discuss sexuality with non-autistic people if you obey the social rules. This leads to many important things being glossed over or not mentioned, and many unimportant things being included or incorrectly emphasised.
This in itself doesn’t mean that they are useless.
