Matthew Brown Abstract A rising rate of young gay and bisexual male adults are appropriating gay online dating technologies, specifically through the medium of mobile applications, as the main form of meeting other men like themselves. Judgements or stances on these online applications commonly insinuate that they are used for casual and immediate gratifications through the act of a sexual hookup.
This study addresses how young homosexual men are personally engaging and understanding their use of gay mobile applications. The study employs a qualitative and interpretive method of research through using one-on-one interviews. This study recruited twelve men aged to provide their thoughts and accounts of their downloaded mobile dating apps and how their meeting with other users online transpired in person. Findings from the interviews indicate that gay mobile apps are more than just a place to meet with someone for sexual intentions, but rather a place of numerously communicated on goings.

Alternatives To Tinder 1. Does Tinder Work For Guys? The first question on the minds of plenty of guys is, “Does this thing even work!? Let’s take a closer look at Tinder’s purpose before we move on to some tips for getting matches: Is it for serious dating, or just for casual hook ups? The short answer is both: While Tinder started life as a hookup app , it’s no longer appropriate to assume that everyone who is using Tinder is looking for casual sex. If Tinder is used for so many different purposes, how can you tell whether the women in your queue are looking for friendship, hook ups or serious dating?
Well, there are a few key signs and phrases. For example, if you see the phrase “no ONS” on Tinder, that stands for “no one night stands”, and means she’s very unlikely to be interested in casual sex. The same goes for phrases like “no hook ups”, “seeking something serious” and “no players” — anything along these lines will indicate that she’s looking for something more serious.

June 8, Conference dates: September 28 and 29, What role do futures play in anthropological research? Adams et al suggest that the current moment is characterized by anticipation, or speculative forecast of what the future might hold, and Taussig et al read scientific projects such as the Human Genome Project in terms of their potentiality, or the quality of something that does not yet but might one day exist. Black feminist futurity, on the other hand, actively imagines a future anterior, the “performance of a future that hasn’t yet happened but must” Campt But how does the future engage with the increasingly interdisciplinary and intersectional nature of our discipline?
Futures, in a plural configuration, focus on the multiple intertwining of desires and realities. In this conference, we will consider the multitude of applications of futures within anthropology and the social sciences. We might apply this framework, for example, to energy futures, the future of human migration and displacement, the technological futures of robotics, or the future as a structure of feeling Williams We seek to engage in the ever-present question of the direction of the discipline: What are the futures of anthropology and its methods?
How does an anthropology keenly aware of its futures remain engaged with an ever-changing world? Back to the Futures is a two-day conference organized by graduate students in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. All anthropological sub-disciplines and students in the social sciences are encouraged to apply.
